10. A document has recently been discovered in the National Library of Mexico representing a petition by a group of Mexican citizens to Don Valeriano and validated by his signature. Dated January 11, 1573, the petition requests that members of the chorus of the College of St. Gregory be allowed to enter that institution as students, and asks Don Valeriano to exert his authority to ensure that the poor send their children to the educational institutions established in Mexico by the King of Spain.
